Galveston - Part 1

Last week we joined Norman's parents for a quick little vacation in Galveston. We left on Wednesday shortly after Aiden ate lunch and got to Galveston around 5 that evening. The first night we just spent time in the hotel and let Aiden get a chance to run around. On Thursday we decided to drive around the island a bit and then took the ferry over to Bolivar Island. We took our car so that we could drive around the island for a little bit. On the way over we all got out of the car and went up to the observation deck. Aiden liked looking at the boats as they passed.

We ended up only spending about 10 minutes or so driving around Bolivar Island since the destruction from the hurricane last year had pretty much wiped everything out. I guess we were lucky when we caught the ferry over because we didn't have to wait in line at all to get on, but on the way back we probably waited for a good 20 minutes for the ferry. We ended up getting on the outside lane, closest to the water. So I got out and enjoyed the view while everyone else looked from the car. Aiden enjoyed getting to point things out to Grandma.

If you look closely you can see all the seagulls flying around the back of the ferry.

On Friday morning, we decided to check out the Moody Garden Aquarium. We were disappointed that the Rainforrest part was still closed for repairs from the hurricane, but enjoyed what we did get to see. Of course there were tons of fish to look at, but my favorites were getting to see the seals and the penguins. We also got to watch a volunteer diver take his proficiency test with a skilled diver. I am sure that guy loved getting to have tons of people watch him while doing hard skills in the scuba suit.

What a funny face Aiden is making...

I wish this picture wasn't so blurry, but it was hard to get Aiden to stand still in front of this mural. I was trying to capture that he was the same height as the King Penguin.

Here is Aiden and Norman in front of the penguins. They were feeding them when we got there. There were also many school groups there that day, so it was interesting to get to hear a little bit about some of the animals while waiting to get a closer look ourselves.

And finally here is Aiden acting silly before saying good bye to the Aquarium...
